One of our favorites. Great people, wonderful food. Always a great place for tea/dessert and conversation.
Food: I especially LOVE the veggie combo and the lentil soup. The meats are often dry so I don't order them anymore. Service in house: is pretty good. Always friendly. Sometimes trouble getting the attention of waitstaff. Ambiance: prefer to use take out. It's a cafeteria like experience in the restaurant. Note: I used to go there more, but prices have increased to the point that it's a special treat for me.

Yeeessssss, Shawarma King. I can get behind not only your falafel, but also how I can purchase items individually...because some days, all I want is just one grape leaf on the side.
I was a 1st timer.. Lordt... I will be making their place a habit!! 3 meals out of the lunch Chicken Shawarma. So flippin' good. I had to stop eating, I was so full but it is sooooo good!!!! You really won't care about the tight parking lot or the traffic getting in and out of the parking lot. Just know you will need stretchy pants and a bib.
I love their freshly squeezed juices. The food is good & the service is too. This place is a staple!
First off, what a delightful hostess. I assume the matriarch ? A truely lovely soul. I ordered the lentil soup and the chicken/beef shawarma. The lentil is the best lentil I have ever had. In fact, I'd love to have the recipe since I live so far. Such a wonderful consistency with outstanding flavor. A purée lentil, so don't expect any full beans. Trust me. You don't need them. Such a delightfully balanced flavor. The shawarma was so tender and so flavorful. The veggies were a nice addition, but the sauces made everything special. Soooo good. Don't pass them by.
The Real Shawarma King, on Drake Road, is THE BEST Middle Eastern in the Kalamazoo area. Doing carry out or eat in, the service is great, they even offer a discount if paying cash. My favorites are the chicken shawarma wrap or falafel wrap. The hummus is outstanding, we also add some of the garlic sauce to it for "extra yummy" hummus. It is the smoothest, creamiest hummus I've ever eaten. The location needs a larger Parking lot however I wouldn't want them to move. Nice small restaurant with friendly staff and pleasant, simple, clean interior. Don't miss this little gem in a bustling area! You'll be sorry if you do.
I stopped in for a late lunch to-go. It was a little quieter at this off time. The parking lot was still hopping with takeout orders though. I hadn't ordered ahead, but the service was so fast and friendly! I'm a sucker for the chicken shawarma wrap and the baba ghanoush. I should make it two meals, except it's just so darn tasty! And don't forget - like I did today *sad face* - to order extra garlic dip. Whether you add it to your wrap, eat it with pita, dip fries in it or just lick it off your fingers it is just dreamy.
